While numerous Canadian artists were able to use this dormant time to get creatively inspired, some chose to bide their time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this spring,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/heartattackkidsband.bandcamp.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heart Attack Kids<\/a>&nbsp;(HAK) stepped out from the shadows to release their first single in nearly two years, a barn burner titled \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/5jh3v9eenKyswJoYalbriD\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NO NO<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, leading up to the anticipated release of their brand new EP on June 24, HAK has followed up with their latest single, \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/2G9m9ZDS06I7OhuCBCJ7VG?si=d72fc15a6435491d\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roll With the Punches<\/a>\u201d, demonstrating a tonality that\u2019s reminiscent of fellow Canadian rock heavyweights,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedirtynil.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Dirty Nil<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.puptheband.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PUP<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The track features a lead guitar style that is both familiar and distinct: one that has become a staple to Heart Attack Kids\u2019 sound. The song also puts the band\u2019s newly-refurbished rhythm section on display, thanks to the group\u2019s bassist, Kayla Purves, and drummer, Eric Freeborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Directly Following their 2020 single \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/6CxN2A0hZFH1SSvBBEner2\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Can\u2019t Stop<\/a>\u201d and several line-up changes, frontman Jared Ellul reshaped Heart Attack Kids into a three-piece group featuring Purves and Freeborn. Their updated lineup is well worth a listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the pandemic, HAK was a two-piece act coming off the 2019 release of \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/1smvYaoeK09kqgjtVIcRyS\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bad Luck Like Gold<\/a>\u201d, their sophomore effort with Liam Cormier of&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerbats.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cancer Bats<\/a>&nbsp;at the helm of production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, mere months after its release and seven years since his arrival in the band, longtime drummer Nathan Stock chose to walk away from HAK, leaving everyone to wonder what will become of their dynamic rhythmic style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accompanied by Purves and Freeborn\u2019s tight rhythm section, the lyrical theme of \u201cRoll With the Punches\u201d offers a constructive and uplifting perspective of how to deal with moving on from whatever setbacks or obstacles come your way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tune carries through to a chorus that packs a huge punch (pun intended)&#8211; a guaranteed opportunity for audiences to join in as the melody bridges to the raw and joyous hook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band is scheduled to be very busy in the coming months, as they\u2019re set to play a series of shows opening for Buckcherry on June 29 at London Music Hall.
