{"id":219,"date":"2022-05-10T06:40:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-10T06:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agoria.ca\/thebsideblog\/?p=219"},"modified":"2023-08-25T03:48:16","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T03:48:16","slug":"alexisonfire-reverse-the-curse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agoria.ca\/thebsideblog\/index.php\/2022\/05\/10\/alexisonfire-reverse-the-curse\/","title":{"rendered":"ALEXISONFIRE: REVERSE THE CURSE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Reverse the Curse\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/0r0vks7LRxOIHaXWLU4a3p?si=2d69e2a5f1734942&#038;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What has arguably been one of the most anticipated reunions in Canadian music history, Alexisonfire are continuing to build toward their upcoming comeback album Otherness with the release of their latest single \u201cReverse the Curse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018The only band ever,\u2019 has been making an abundance of noise following their return to the stage in 2015, releasing their first piece of new music since 2010\u2019s \u201cFamiliar Drugs.\u201d Since then, Alexis has not only reminded those longtime and devoted fans who they are as a band, but they\u2019ve also shown the world how much they\u2019ve grown in the time they spent apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Songs like 2020\u2019s \u201c<em>Seasons of the Flood<\/em>,\u201d reveal a softer and more mellow sound from the band, with George Petit singing in a cleaner vocal timbre as opposed to his more traditional, intense style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherness\u2019 first single, \u201c<em>Sweet Dreams of Otherness<\/em>,\u201d draws a comparison to sub-genres like stoner rock and shoegaze as it demonstrates a balance of soft, melancholic tones with the profound brutality that Alexis is renowned for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Reverse the Curse<\/em>,\u201d showcases a nod to the nostalgic, riff heavy sound of early 00&#8217;s hardcore punk, reminiscent of Cancer Bats and Comeback Kid. According to both frontman George Petit and bassist Chris Steele, much of the song is, in fact, heavily rooted in stoner rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Petit revealed in this same interview that this particular song was actually a precursor to \u201cYoung Cardinals,\u201d and was played once in Hamilton prior to the release of their 2009 effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWe scrapped it because we were cowards. We thought it was too much like Kyuss-worship-,\u201d says Petit. \u201cFast-forward to this record, Alexisonfire has a newfound confidence and we do whatever the f\u2013k we want now.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/agoria.ca\/thebsideblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aof1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agoria.ca\/thebsideblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aof1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/agoria.ca\/thebsideblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aof1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/agoria.ca\/thebsideblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aof1-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><sub>(Leo Montero\/@truffleimages)<\/sub><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Steele also touched upon how this song is especially personal to him:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI only know one way of writing.
