The program designed to help executives-, rather than musicians.
Canadian Music Week (CMW) and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) are providing a bursary to 15 up-and-coming Canadian music industry professionals, not including the artists themselves.
A bursary is a monetary grant awarded to a group or individual for them to continue their studies or efforts.
CMW and MLSE say their grant funding aims to support and encourage new talent in the Canadian live entertainment industry.
“Through this initiative we are creating a legacy for corporate social responsibility where sponsors and partners can propel promising candidates to become the next generation of industry leaders,” says Neill Dixon, President of Canadian Music Week.
Applicants must be an aspiring executive who has been actively volunteering, working part-time or working full-time in the live music industry, or be a student currently attending a live entertainment program at a post-secondary institution.
Other requirements state that applicants must be available to attend the Live Music Touring Summit Day and the Live Music Industry awards, both on June 4, 2024, as well as attend a meet-and-greet with an MLSE rep on June 4 or 5, 2024. Applicants have the option to attend CMW conferences from June 3 to 5, 2024.
Winners will receive a 2024 Canadian Music Week Music Summit Conference pass that allows them to attend discussions and network, share ideas and build contacts in the industry.
Melissa Bubb-Clarke, who is Senior Vice President of Music & Live Events at MLSE, provides a statement about the company’s role in embracing CMW and the Canadian music industry:
“This unique, annual experience is a testament to our shared commitment to the growth of the industry and ensures that passionate, aspiring professionals of all backgrounds have an equitable opportunity to network, learn and develop their skills in this space.”
