False Consciousness – BLUSH_RESPONSE

Greg Burkell, May 22, 2024

Joey Blush releases new single ahead of upcoming album.

Are you looking for the soundtrack to your existential dread? Well then mark your calendars for July 5th because SPRAWL_, the new album from BLUSH_RESPONSE is on its way!

BLUSH_RESPONSE, aka Joey Blush, is a Berlin based Cuban-American artist/sound designer with an impressive amount of shows and releases under his belt.

Since his 2013 album ‘Tension Strategies’ Blush has been challenging the boundaries of genre. He has created an unstoppable musical chimera using elements of techno, noise music and industrial rock that is sure to please anyone who appreciates the bleeding edge of music.

Based on this new single, Blush’s upcoming album is shaping up to be a beast of its own.

‘False Consciousness,’ begins with a distorted kick drum that sets the track in motion, carrying us through the entire piece. We are met soon after by the voice of Marc Heal, one of the members of industrial group Cubanate who have enjoyed a recent resurgence.

Heal’s vocals ooze out between the cracks in the distorted industrial soundscape, lending a hypnotic quality to the already mesmerizing soundscape with frequent pleas to “set me free, set me free.”

The track sounds like Nine Inch Nails went heavy on the acid and started playing around with modular synths, and it’s fantastic. If you find yourself staring out the window of the subway asking yourself the deep questions then ‘SPRAWL_’ might just be the album for you.

You can stream ‘False Consciousness’ now on Spotify, Bandcamp and Apple Music along with the rest of Blush’s decade long discography. Don’t forget to check out SPRAWL_ on July 5th, 2024.
